Artist's Statement

My work aims to connect individuals and create conversation among people. My practice involves creating works about what I feel and various things that interest me such as history and religion. I’m interested in subject matter about things that people don’t like to talk about, things I’ve experienced, various questions about how the world works, and more. That is how I am able to connect with my audience. My aim is to make people question themselves and their environment and lead them towards a new reality in which they are comfortable with the things that bother them. There is a quote that I’ve been drawn to that has really helped to define my practice for me and it reads as follows, “I am trying to create beauty in my work that allows for beauty in other people”. For as long as I can remember I’ve never been able to describe my goals better. I’ve always wanted my work to spark some form of change so that we can start to better ourselves.

My artistic process has become more focused on researching my subject matter. I feel like I need to understand what I’m creating work about. I cannot demand that my audience familiarize themselves with something that I myself don’t understand. I’ve developed this craving for knowledge which has allowed me to become more informed both in my practice and as an individual.

I am primarily a painter however I have experience using a variety of mediums which include but aren’t limited to paint, oil,  soft pastels, markers, and colored pencils. Lately, my work will start and exist across multiple mediums before I settle on the final form which is a fun moment within my practice. Having ghosts of the forms a project could have taken is nice to look at and can be inspiring for the projects to come. I hope that my work continues to take on many forms and that I continue to learn and take in information.

It is my hope that my work speaks to you and that we can collaborate on whatever creative ideas you have in mind. I can't wait to work with you!
